In various aspects of my life, it’s much easier for me to begin new habits than to thoroughly commit to them. I’ve found that these habits—such as sleeping for 7-8 hours a night, maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine, practicing kindness, limiting screen time, practicing bass, reading fiction, and staying on top of my freelance career—remain intact for a week, a month, but tend to fall apart as the year drags on. maintaining attempts to establish a sense of control and order through strict adherence to musical materials, all while channeling the frustration and anxiety I experience when my lifestyle no longer reflects my personal goals. The forceful, focused opening material circulates throughout the ensemble, folds in upon itself and reaches a bursting point. The music then bursts into a series of tiny fragments and eventually settles in a manner akin to a cloud dust finding rest upon the ground.
